I asked her if she wanted to wait at the hotel, but she said no, she'd go along. Looking back, I probably should've gone down to there the first night when I was by myself. It was clearly unfair of me to drag Mel along like that and, in retrospect, I regret doing so. As far as the Trade Center itself, well, I don't know. There's not really anything I could say that hasn't already been said by people much more thoughtful and eloquent than me, but, as far as my own personal experience visiting there, I can say I'll remember the smell. It was thick, heavy, and seemed to permeate everything.
