Before leaving downtown, Mel and I paused for a few minutes to have a much needed discussion about our visit to the Trade Center site. She made clear why she hadn't wanted to go, and I explained why I felt I had to. In the end, while we still didn't agree with each other, at least we could understand where the other was coming from.
