This is probably the most cliche thing I'll write about the trip, so I apologize in advance. One problem for me was I hadn't gotten New York yet, and didn't really understand what the big fuss was about. Sure it was big, sure it was diverse, and sure there was a lot to do and see, but really, at a fundamental level, what was so special about it? What made it any different from Chicago, Minneapolis, Toronto, or any other great city? I felt a transformation as we crossed the bridge, though, and by the time we set foot in Brooklyn, I felt I understood.
