Items Noted Elsewhere: Bad, Biofuels Bad! Edition

  • Talk about unintended consequences:  “These studies for the first time take a detailed, comprehensive look at the emissions effects of the huge amount of natural land that is being converted to cropland globally to support biofuels development.  The destruction of natural ecosystems — whether rain forest in the tropics or grasslands in South America — not only releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere when they are burned and plowed, but also deprives the planet of natural sponges to absorb carbon emissions. Cropland also absorbs far less carbon than the rain forests or even scrubland that it replaces.”

  • WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL TWO RIVERS WI CLASS OF 1989 – Uh, wow.  Some guy (?) who graduated the year before I entered Washington High School in Two Rivers has put together a completely obsessive-compulsive blog about his classmates and teachers, and seems intent on writing something about everyone he went to school with or was ever taught by.  Currently he has over 250 student-related posts, and over 60 teacher-related posts.  Holy crap.

Items Noted Elsewhere: The NYT Tells You Where to Go

The New York Times has published their list of 53 Places to Go in 2008.  I note this because #40 is one of my favorite cities:  Detroit.

Seriously, it’s a good town.  Give it a chance.

Items Noted Elsewhere: Finding Spots to Study

bookmark

I had a bit of blog deja vu this evening after reading this post and this post within about two minutes of each other. Not much of a point to this, I just thought it was kind of funny.

As for me, I still haven’t found a good place to study. I’m working on that, though.

(This post wasn’t sponsored by Netvibes, but it could have been.)

  • Tool’s ‘10,000 Days’ Recalls the Good Old Days of CD’s – I’m by no means a fan of Tool, but this review pretty much sums up my feelings on the shuffle-culture overtaking popular music. While I’m very dependent on my mp3 player, I rarely shuffle my music, instead opting for the traditional order of tracks as laid down on their respective CDs.
