Journal for 27 Sep 2007: Fall

bookmark

And just like that Fall arrives, not just in name but in spirit. It’s good to have the cool evenings and open windows back, although I could probably do without the combination of leaf-slicked roads and inattentive neighbors.

Our neighborhood is the only one I know of in Minneapolis with uncontrolled intersections. It keeps things interesting.

Journal for 25 Sep 2007: Busy, Busy, Busy

bookmark

Life has been too busy as of late.  I found myself working at 2:00 this morning, and expect to be up late tonight working on a project for school.  Overall everything I’ve been involved in has been good, it’s just that with the traveling and major initiatives at work, I’ve been kind of overwhelmed.

There’s light at the end of the tunnel with work right now, but as far as school…  Well, we’re already at midterms next week.

BabyLog: The First Big Growth Spurt

bookmark

A few days ago Mathias embarked on one heck of a growth spurt. We’ve seen a couple of small spurts before, but nothing like this. He literally grew out of many of his newborn clothes over the course of two to three days. We’ve started rotating in his nicer “guests are here” clothing just to make sure he gets to wear everything at least once or twice. When we got a small gift of clothing over the weekend, we checked the size, saw 6-9 months, and practically broke into song and dance as a result.

Mathias has been up a lot at night the past few days, too, chowing down as much as possible. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s doubled his food intake over the past week. The rate of transformation has been amazing. As with most things we’ve experienced with him so far, the spurt is exciting, but it’s a bit sad at the same time. He’s not a big baby by any means, but as of this week he’s no longer a small one, either. I’m not complaining, but all the clichés about kids growing up fast… Well, so far they seem to be true.

It’ll be interesting to see what the next few weeks bring.

Items Noted Elsewhere: Finding Spots to Study

bookmark

I had a bit of blog deja vu this evening after reading this post and this post within about two minutes of each other. Not much of a point to this, I just thought it was kind of funny.

As for me, I still haven’t found a good place to study. I’m working on that, though.

(This post wasn’t sponsored by Netvibes, but it could have been.)

It’s been good to see both sets of grandparents over the past few days, but, all things considered, it was probably a bit too much traveling considering the three-month-old we have in tow.

In a few minutes I’ll be leaving to drive a 1985 Chevy Caprice Estate wagon across Wisconsin. More on that later.

Journal for 9 September 2007: Closing Out The Door

bookmark

Well, we’re nearing the end of our yearly trip to Door County. Tomorrow we’re off to Two Rivers to visit my folks, marking the first time Mathias will get to visit the Danielson set of grandparents at home.

Not too much to report from Door County. This is a dreadfully relaxing place, if you’re into that kind of thing. Once upon a time this was a good place for kids, but Tom Thumb is long gone now, overtaken by condos like everything else. If we keep coming back, I’m not sure we’ll be able to find something for Mathias to do.

I’ve spent a lot of time studying. And working, unfortunately. The visit to Two Rivers will probably include much of the same.

Spotted on the trip to buy some apple juice this evening: Seven deer, one raccoon, one fox, and one ferret-like creature I wasn’t able to identify.

Well, I ate too much today, so I’m going to go to bed and see if I can sleep some of it off. More later.

Well, I’m done with my first class.  The professor seems pretty cool, and the people I’ve been paired with for the class project seem pretty bright, so so far so good.

I have a lot to do, but I’m letting my brain rest for an evening.
